week 3 Paso Doble training

Im abslutely loving it,i feel more macho as i know im not in pink, its a very aggressive dance which i have to perform. i cant just cruise through it,this one needs a character and his name is Juan!!!! ha ha. Again Nats has me doin tough choreography and its alot faster than the rhumba and waltz so its somethin new i need to get used to and fast!!! we only have 3 days really to get it done as directors cuts are off today and weve only had 3 hours to do it in. but this is the competition now, little prep and maximum impact,i just hope i can pull it off. Its gonna be tough workin all day and gettin in minimal practice but it just means i have to work twice as hard in the studio but im lovin it. i seem more focused and determined,is it because i know ive only got 3 days to complete a whole new routine,or that everyone now expects a big performance every week from us? Expectations are high and with a great first week (that im really proud of and no matter what happens this week or coming weeks,no one can take that from us), we have probably put more pressure on ourselves to be as good if not better but i have 100% faith in Natalies amazin choreography and ability to teach me and am just havin such a ball…heres hoping that i can continue in this competition for as long as possible,i dont want it to end, besides no pressure but Nats parents are comin over from Oz in 3 weeks so i need to last at least til then ha ha

Dance Training Advantage my A***!!

Hillarious how 5 thirty minute sessions over 4 months became intensive training for one of the if not the toughest show on tv!!! It has been in a lot of press that i had an advantage because of lessons with Dale,(darren Bennetts twin brother) not sure that 5 lessons with your missus 2years before you knew you would be on strictly counts peeps!! ha ha. Ive had french lessons, still cant speak it tho!! My dad thinks its all down to him and his genes, but to be fair its true, you either have rythmn or you dont.2 years ago, as a present i bought Carley salsa lessons in Sheffield, but as we live the other side of the country near Liverpool,we couldnt justify the 3 hour round trip so had to jack it in after 5 lessons which spanned over 4 months as mine and Carleys filmin schedules never gave us days off together,so there you have it,rant over, another dopey rumour quashed!!! But hey even if i had continued, you will be hard pressed to find an actor who hasnt had dance training, not to mention pop stars in previous years like Rachel Stevens last year, everyone has experience in dance, you either have rythmn or you dont, whether its in a club or dance school, nothing can compare or prepare you for strictly come dancing. This is the toughest thing ive done,we are all in the same boat and no matter your experience all have to learn new routines, techniques and moves. This show is about who will want it the most, who will put in the most effort and determination to better themselves. At the end of the day, after my name it says actor not dancer, but i am tryin to change that hee hee

Make Natalie Lowe Strictlys Fave

We have only seen her for 2 weeks, yet she is the talk of the judges, the fans and i cant speak of her highly enough!!! Everyone has their favourite pro dancer and groups are set up in honour,Natalie is new,few knew of her reputation in Oz,but she is already making waves and i want her to be recognised for her monstrous efforts so far in the series. My aim, apart from obviously trying to win or stay in this competition for as long as possible is to make sure Natalie leaves this series as the new favourite pro dancer,a title she will rightly deserve and without doubt earn over the coming months!!! She is the greatest teacher,so patient and clever and has worked miracles with me! Her performances are always above and beyond, and demands attention, her choreography is imaginative, complex and beautiful( apart from our dances she choreographed the pro quick step which got a standing ovation by all four judges!!!) and she is a lovely person,so chilled ,funny and loved by all at the bbc or come to think of it,by anyone who meets her. So i want everyone behind her,not just me,im hoping we can make a great team and if i listen to everythin she says and asks of me,we will entertain til the end. For those unlucky enough not to have met her yet, shes one of the good ones….

Through to next Round!!!

I am so happy with this weekend. I made a few mistakes but most importantly,we are through to the next round and i am really looking forward to learning a new routine though only have about 12 hours to learn it is gonna be tough. Im still filmin hollyoaks during the day so its gonna have to be late nighters to try and nail what will no doubt be tough choreography from Nat.Again can i just say how amazing she has done this month to get me where i am. She was so patient, willing and i think she has more than proved herself to be a force to be reckoned with amongst the pros. I was so nervous in front of the judges after the waltz i looked pale and Nat had to squeeze my hand to stop them from shaking!! Same again saturday night,im not too bad during a performance, its just before behind the curtain and then facing the judges that my heart starts pounding!! I know we got great scores and a new strictly record(first ever 9 in round 1–big congrats to Natalie for that), but i just want to say thankyou to Carley, family and friends and a massive thankyou to anyone who voted for us and to please keep doin so as we are having so much fun and want to learn as many dances as possible, and hopefully surprise you with more routines now Nat has the bug!! Thanks again and i hope you enjoy the next round, weeks 3 yay!!!

My First Individual Dance-The Night Before

Well last week, i wasnt really that nervous. Just excited to be part of it and couldnt wait to perform… that business is out the window!!!!!!!! Now its my turn and after a day training with the legendary Darcy Russell(wow by the way!!),ive just got in from a hard days rehearsal. It was the first time we had performed our individual dances in the actual studio and in front of an audience(the other contestants). Everyone has raised their game for this week, everyone looks great and there are no weak links, with everyone completing entertaining, beautiful or fun performances. Which ever one of us goes out,we can be proud as they all looked great. It was tough and im hoping i can keep my nerve for the big nights. First up tomoz is the waltz, not my fave as i find it stuffy in a suit and being a regal gentleman is not me,now dirty latin lover sounds much more fun and it is. I was happy with where we are with the rhumba for saturday, stills needs cleaning up,but feels sexy. Natalie is just always amazing, her choreography is a ten, shes more than that so the only one that will let us down will be me. So its up to me to raise my game saturday and perform like we have in rehearsals,if i do,or hopefully even better, then i think people will be surprised. The rhumba is my prefered performance but hopefully people will like our waltz. So here it is,opening week for me,me and nat are dancing last on both friday and saturday so keep watchin and help us out sat night, yes im pluggin for votes, whats the point of a blog if i cant take advantage, fingers crossed

Strictly Opening night

wow, what a night, first live dance out the way…job done!!! It was soooo excitin to finally get the show started! everyone had so much fun and we are all really proud of the guys who performed on their own, and we were well chuffed that we pulled off the group dance. I think it has been a slight advantage performing second week as all our nerves went last night and we kind of got used to the arena and performing in front of a live crowd. Bruno isnt silly and was 100% right when he said safety in numbers. Its much easier as you feel you can kind of blend in,but im not silly, the judges dont miss a step so its massive effort all the way through. Just want to say thankyou to Len and Alesha for their lovely comments, thats what Nat wanted. She wanted us to make a good first impression and stand out and it looks like we did. Im just so happy i didnt let Nat down,i really want to do well for her as she has put so much effort into making me better. She really is a great teacher and i cant wait til next week, though the judges marks and comments were vicious for week one, back to the training room, got some steps and technique that need cleaning and tweakin!!!!!

2 Days til Strictly Begins

its getting into the early hours of wednesday evening and im still filming at Hollyoaks buzzin in anticipation for in two hours i catch the train to london for showtime. Its been a few tough weeks of learning choreography, learning routines, how to even stand properly. My whole posture has changed and adapted and i cant think of a body part that doesnt ache!!! Tomorrow is our last full day to rehearse the group dance together before beaming out to millions not just across the nation, but after recieving fan mail from Oz,the world!! I cant wait and think its gonna be a beltin opening. Everyone has worked really hard and looks great and im looking forward to seeing the rest of the competition for the first time.

SCD Training week 2

Gloves are off and the honeymoon period is over!! im shattered and training is gettin intense. Choerography is all done for the two dances and now we are down to the technical stuff, posture, frame, footwork….the hard stuff!! This is the bit thats killin me,havin to soak my feet every night to try and soothe them. Nat is workin me  hard, shes here to win and is so driven and is trying to install it into me. I really have the best partner in the show and i dont wanna let her down. Im workin all the hours i can and if i can get on top of her fantastic choreography,we can go far. but thats the tough part, its tougher than i thought it would be and shes pushin me to be the best i can. she wants me so drilled that we are looking good and together in the group dance opening night. shes all about entertaining the audience, but wants to make it right to please and impress the judges too. Its tough,im sore but we’re progressin…….slowly, ive a long way to go,but only a week to get there…ah good times!!!!

Zoe Lucker is a Lovely Person

Just a quick shout out to Zoe after being mis quoted in a recent magazine. It happens all the time in press especially when in high profile shows, and we should be used to it. It just annoys me when pieces contain quotation marks as if its from the horses mouth. It wasnt and things in the press are often paraphrased, edited or twisted to suit the story or theme. I have met her once in a studio 5 years ago and have never met her any other time(especially in a club as mentioned in the interview) til now. She is a fantastic girl with a lovely personality and i wish her all the best for the show. She is doin well too so watch out for her moves when the show starts. Once again,im sorry Zoe for any trouble this rubbish has caused

Press!!! Dancing in my Thong?

Right lets clear this little puppy up!! no i will not be dancing in my thong(yeah i do actually have one, long story but never worn!!!) nor will it be my choice of outfits regarding the amount of flesh showing on the show. It is up to the costume designers, producers and my pro partner Natalie who is choreographing what i dance, how i dance and what i dance in. I had about 70 interviews talking about all sorts and the only head line that came out was id bare my chest or dance in a thong in the final. If i ever get to the final, buzzin, but i was havin a laugh with journos and my words were taken out of context, basically it was just a bit of banter. Im just looking forward to taking part in an amazing show and praying i dont trip and make a fool of myself…….no pressure then!!!
